This lapis lazuli ( lazurite ) is from the Kokcha Valley, Badakshan, Afghanistan. This locale encompasses a large area with over 40 different mineral species including lapis lazuli. It is the sulfur rich variety of hauyne and contains the elements Na, Ca, Si, O, S and Cl. This specimen consists of a marble, calcite and pyrite crystal matrix that hosts an aesthetic display of lazurite crystals. The largest crystal is approximately 15 mm across. This piece measures 2 1/16 x 1 7/16 x 1 inch or 51 x 27 x 25 mm.
