Description

This azurite crystal rosette is from the Daye or Tongshankou Copper Mine in the Huangshi Prefecture, Hubei Province, China. This is an iron and copper mine that contains over 25 types of minerals including azurite. It is a secondary mineral found in oxidied copper deposits. It is also a carbonate that contains the elements Cu, C, O and H. This is an outstanding rosette type azurite cluster. It consists of 360 degree accicular clusters of tabular crystals. They have a rich prussian-blue color and a vitreous luster that is accented with fibrous malachite. This piece measures 2 1/2 x 1 5/8 x 1 5/8 inches or 64 x 41 x 41 mm.
