This amethyst is from Piedras Parado in the Mun de Tatatlila, Veracruz, Mexico.This locale contains 6 different minerals including the world famous amethyst specimens found there. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz which is a silicate containing the elements Si and O. In pure form quartz is colorless however it can be found in different colors that are caused by trace impurities in the crystal lattice. This specimen consists of a remnant quartz crystal matrix that hosts several elongated and randomly oriented amethyst crystals. They are typical for the locale with translucent to transparent colorless to white bases and transparent amethyst tops. They have a  glass luster and they a light purple to light violet color. This piece is a small miniature that measures 1 7/16 x 1 x 7/8 x inches or 36 x 25 x 22 mm.
