Description
This zoisite is from Alchuri in the Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Alchuri is a mountainous region that contains alpine cleft-type deposits that contain over thirty different minerals species including outstanding zoisite crystals. Zoisite is a silicate that contains the elements Ca, Al, Si, O and H. This is a double terminated crystal whose prism faces have parallel striations and complex growth. It has a honey hue when back lighted and a grayish-yellow color when lighted from the front and above. It is transparent with internal flawing and it has a glass luster. It measures 1 x 1/2 x 3/8 inches or 25 x 13 x 11 mm
