Description

This wulfenite Is from the Red Cloud Mine in the Silver District, Trigo Mountains, La Paz County, Arizona, USA. Almost 40 different mineral species were found in this mine but it is famous for the large tabulat wulfenite crystals that were once found there. Wulfenite is a molybdenite that contains the elements Pb, Mo and O. This specimen is made up of a quartz/goethite matrix that hosts red/orange tabular wulfenite crystals as well as small translucent selenite crystals. Selenite is a sulfate that contains the elements Ca, S, O and H. Note: there is a former contact area on the right side as shown in photo 3. This piece measures approximately 3 1/4 x 1 3/4 x 1 5/8 inches or 83 x 45 x 41 mm.
