This wulfenite is from San Juan Poniente, Ojuela Mine in Mapimi, Mun. de Mapimi, Durango, Mexico. This mine contains 151 recognized minerals including several varieties of lead based minerals such as wulfenite. It is a sulfate containing the elements Pb, Mo and O and is found in the oxidation zones of lead ore deposits. This specimen consists of a rolling gossan matrix that hosts dozens of elongated wulfenite crystals They have a rich color and a vitreous luster. This piece measures approximately 2 1/2 x 2 1/8 x 1 1/2 inches or 64 x 53 x 38 mm.
