Description
This wolframite crystal is from the Yaogangxian Mine, Yaogangxian W-Sn Ore Field, Tizhang, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province of China. Tungsten and tin are the primary minerals extracted from multiple ore bodies in an area spanning 4 x 2.5 km. Seventy-eight different species of minerals are found there including wolframite which is a Tungstate containing the elements Fe, W, O and Mn. This is a double terminated crystal with the bottom being a healed former point of attachment. It has a spearhead shaped habit and a sub-metallic luster. This crystal measures 1 1/8 x 3/4 x 5/16 inches or 28 x 19 x 7 mm.
