.This vesuvianite is from the Jeffrey Mine (John Mansfield Mine), Asbestos, Les Sources RCM, Estrie, Quebec, Canada. This was an chrysotile asbestos mine until asbestos was identified as a health hazard. It is now inactive. One hundred and ten other minerals have been identified at the mine including vesuvianite. It can be found in a variety of colors depending on trace elements in the crystal lattice. This specimen has some purple crystals which indicates the presence of manganese. This is a crystallized vein section with natural, recrystallized, terminated surfaces on all sides. The display side hosts dozens of glassy, translucent to transparent crystals. This piece measures 2 1/4 x 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches or 57 x 38 x 38 mm.
