Description
These vesuvianite crystals are from Bellecombe, Chatillon, Aosta Valley, Italy. This is a classic locale for a variety of collector species including vesuvianite. It is a silicate that contains the elements Ca,Fe, Al, Mg, Si, O and H. This piece consists of a mixed crystalline matrix of grossular, diopside and clinochlore that hosts an exposed vug-like pocket that is filled with short prismatic crystals and a single elongated crystal of vesuvianite. They have a reddish brown color and the longest crystal is 20 mm tall. The piece measures 2 x 1 1/8 x 1 1/2 inches or 50 x 28 x 38 mm.
