This vesuvianite crystal is from Sieera des Cruces, Nunicipio de Sierra Mojada, Coahuila, Mexico. This occurrence contains grossular and vesuvianite crystals. Vesuvianite, or idiocraze, is a silicate that contains the elements Ca, Na, Al, Fe, Ng, O, H and F. This is a large crystal that has a pseudo-cubic morphology. The six sides have complex stair step surfaces and a greasy to vitreous luster. There are some green partial grossular garnets attached. This piece measures 1 7/8 x 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 inches or 48 x 45 x 45 mm as displayed in photo 1.
