This vanadinite is from Taouz area in the Er Rachidin Province of the Meknes-Tafilalet Region of Morocco. This area contains 42 different mineral species including vanadinite which is found in the oxidation zones of lead deposits. It is a phosphate mineral that contains the elements Pb, V, O and Cl. This specimen consists of a psilomelane and goethite matrix that is covered with black stalactite formations and orange vanadinite crystals. The crystals are are large and have, hexagonal, tabular habits. Some are modified with skeletal chracteristics. They contrast nicely against the dark matrix. This piece measures 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 1 7/8 inches or 89 x 65 x 47 mm.
