This vanadinite is from the Mibladen Mining District, Midelt, Morocco. This area contains dozens of commercial mines including small diggings that are mined specifically for vanadinite specimens. It is a phosphate mineral that contains the elements Pb, V, O and Cl. This specimen consists of a matrix made up of dozens of vanadinite crystals with a thin barite and sandstone crust on the bottom. The crystals have hexagonal, tabular, and six-sided barrel shaped habits. They are large, up to 9 mm, translucent with gemmy areas and they have a bright luster. It measures 2 1/2 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/4 inches or 64 x 41 x 32 mm.
