These vanadinite crystals are from the Mibladen Mining District, Midelt, Morocco. This area contains dozens of commercial mines including small diggings that are mined specifically for the recovery of vanadinite specimens. It is a phosphate mineral that contains the elements Pb, V, O and Cl. This specimen consists of a massive barite matrix that is covered with dozens of red/orange and beige vanadinite crystals. The crystals range from opaque to transluscent and some are gemmy near the surface ( under bright light ). They have a bright vitreous to glassy luster. This piece can be displayed from the front, top or rear. The piece is 2 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2 inches or 50 x 41 x 38 mm.
