Description

These vanadinite crystals are from the Mibladen Mining District, Midelt, Morocco. This area contains dozens of commercial mines including small diggings that are mined specifically for the recovery of vanadinite specimens. It is a phosphate mineral that contains the elements Pb, V, O and Cl. It is a secondary mineral found in the oxidation zones of lead ore deposits. This specimen consists of a, mostly, crystalline barite matrix that is topped with dozens of lustrous vanadinite crystals. The vanadinites have a sharp hexagonal habit and orange/red color. They have a brilliant luster and contrast nicely against the matrix. This piece measures 2 5/8 x 2 1/8 x 2 inches or 6.7 x 5.5 x 5.1 cm
