Description
This vanadinite is from the Taouz area in the Erachida Province, Draa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco. This area covers several square kilometers and contains several Pb veins located near the village of Taouz. Almost 20 different minerals can be found in this area but it is mostly known for the varied vanadinite specimens found there. Vanadinite contains the elements Pb, V, O and Cl. In Taouz it is commonly found in association with oxides such as goethite and limonite. This piece consists of a quartz/goethite/limonite matrix that is mostly covered on the display side with vanadinite crystals ranging in size from druse to about 10 mm. This is a large cabinet sized piece that measures 7 3/8 x 6 x 2 1/2 inches or 187 x 152 x 65 mm.
