This uvite tourmaline is from the Pomba Pit in Serra das Eguas, Brumado, Bahia, Brazil. This mine is a commercial producer of talc and magnesite, however other accessory minerals. including emerald, can be found there. A ban on mineral collection by anyone, including the miners, is strictly enforced. This piece consists of a magnesite crystal matrix that hosts several, shield shaped, uvite tourmalines. The uvites are transparent with internal grazing and they have a glass luster. There are some small hematite crystals on the magnesite. This piece measures 1 3/8 x 15/16 x 7/8 inches or 35 x 24 x 23 mm.
