Description
This uvite is from the Pomba Pit in Sierra das Eguas, Brumado, Bahia, Brazil. This is large open pit operation mined for the commercial recovery of magnesite and talc. Crystal bearing pockets of several accessory minerals are found there. The mine owners banned specimen collecting including collecting by employees. This is a large, bi-colored (reddish -brown and green), uvite tourmaline crystal. It contains the elements Ca, Mg, Al,Si and O.It has secondary brown and red druse crystals on parts of the faces. It has a former, undamaged, crystal attachment point on the top right side and a healed crystal attachment point at the base as displayed in photo three. The crystal has a bright vitreous luster. It a small miniature that measures 1 1/4 x 1 1/16 x 5/8 inches or 32 x 27 x 16 mm.
