Description

This uvite tourmaline is from the Pomba Pit in Serra das Egus, Brumado, Bahia, Brazil. This mine is a commercial producer of magnesite and talc however uvite and other accessory minerals, including emeralds are found there. The mine owners enforce a ban on mineral collecting that includes the miners that work there. This specimen consists of a crystalline quartz matrix that hosts over one dozen, shield-shaped, uvite tourmaline crystals. They are green and translucent especially when back lighted as shown in photos one, three and five. They have a glass luster and the largest is 8 mm across. this piece measures 1 3/16 x 1 x 3/4 inches or 30 x 25 x 22 mm.
