Description
This dravite tourmaline is from the Kokcha Valley in Badakshan, Afghanistan. It is in the uvite-dravite series of tourmaline and different sources list as being in both. It is a silicate and it contains the elements Na, Mg, Al, Si, O, B, and H. This specimen consists of a fuchsite matrix that hosts a somewhat rare blue tourmaline The crystals have trigonal-pyramidal morphologies. They have a slight translucence near the surface under bright light. It measures 1 3/4 x 1 1/4 x 1 7/8 inches or 45 x 32 x 48 mm.
