These uvarovite garnets are from the Saranovskii Mine at the Saranovskaya Village, Gornozavodskii area, Permskaya Oblast, Middle Urals, Urals Region, Russia. This is a chromite mine that contains over two dozen minerals species including uvarovite. Uvarovite is a silicate in the garnet family that contains the elements Ca, Cr,Si and O. This piece consists of a basalt matrix (sawed on top rear and bottom surfaces) that hosts dozens of garnet crystals. It measures 3 3/8 x 2 3/8 x 1 1/8 inches or 86 x 60 x 28 mm.
