This hexagonite is from the Gouveneur Mine in Fowler, St. Lawrence County, New York USA.This is a talc mine that contains tremolite and hexagonite as associated minerals. Hexagonite is the manganese rich variety of tremolite. It contains the elements Ca, Mg, Si, O and H.  This piece consists of a mass of small parallel crystals. They have a light lilac to purple color and a glass luster. Hexagonite needs to be handled with carefully because of its  splinter like characteristics. This piece measures 3 x 2 1/4 x 1 inches or 76 x 57 x 25 mm.
