Description
These tourmalines, variety elbaite, are from the Chia Mine in Sao Jose da Safira, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This mine is in the Safira Pegmatite District and it has almost 20 different mineral species including elbaite. It is a silicate that contains the elements; Na, Al, Li, Al, Si, O, B, and H. This specimen consists of elbaite crystals on a pink lepidolite and mica crystal matrix. The three crystals (two small ones on the rear surface) are terminated and have a blue-green almost indicolite color. This piece measures 2 3/4 x 2 1/16 x 1 1/8 inches or 70 x 52 x 28 mm. The longest tourmaline is 45 mm long.
