These tourmalines are from the Chiar Mine, Sao Jose da Safira, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. They are elbaite crystals that are part of the Tourmaline Group of minerals. They contain the elements Al, B, H, Li, Na, O, and Si. The presence of trace elements in the lattice of the crystal are responsible for producing a variety of colors. This specimen consists of a mixed matrix of mica and lepidolite crystals with a trio of blue-green elbaite crystals. This piece measures 1 3/4 x 1 1/8 x 7/8 inches or 45 x 28 x 22 mm.
