This specimen is from the Pedeneira Claim in Sao Jose da Safira, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It consists of a tourmaline matrix that is covered with dozens of tourmaline crystals. The tourmaline crystals are blue, variety indicolite, and they have darker blue terminations. This piece measures 1 3/8 x 1 x 7/8 inches or 35 x 25 x 22 mm.

Description

This tourmaline crystal cluster is from the Pederneira Mine in Sao Jose da Safira, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Ellbaite is in the Tourmaline Group of minerals. It is a silicate and it contains the elements  Al, B, H, Li, Na, O and Si. It can be found in a variety of colors which are caused by traces of other elements in the crystal lattice. This specimen consists of a cluster of various sized elbaite tourmalines that range in color from lavender to red. This piece measures 1 13/16 x 1 7/16 x 1 inches or 44 x 37 x 25 mm.
