This tourmaline is from the Chiar Mine, Sao Jose da Safira, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is an elbaite crystal that is part of the Tourmaline Group of minerals. It contains the elements Al, B, H, Li, Na, O, and Si. The presence of trace elements in the lattice of the crystal are responsible for producing a variety of colors. This crystal has a light purple color and a glass luster. It is double terminated with lightly striated prism faces. It is mostly transparent with some internal flawing. This crystal measures 17 x 9 x 7 mm and weighs 2.4 grams.
