This tourmalated quartz is from Minas Gerais, Brazil. This is a mineral rich area that contains hundreds of different mineral species. The area contains many pegmatites that are mined for the recovery of gemstone and collector pieces. This specimen consists of transparent, parallel growth, quartz crystals that are mostly covered and included by glassy green elbaite tourmaline crystals. The elbaite’s have dark green cores and grass-green exteriors. They in turn host books of lavender lepidolite and minor albite crystals. The base is a combination of healed quartz and tourmaline crystals. This piece measures 2 x 7/8 x 13/16 inches or 50 x 22 x 20 mm.
