Description
This torbernite is from the Musonoi Mine in Kolwezi, Kolwezi District. Kantaga Copper Crescent, Shaba, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This is a uraniferous copper deposit that contains 64 different minerals including torbernite. It is a uranium mineral that is found in the oxidation zones of the deposit. Torbernite is a phosphate that contains the elements Cu, U, O, P, and H. This specimen consists of a, vug filled, tuff matrix that contains brilliant, blade-like, torbernite crystals.They have an emerald color and are opague to translucent. The luster is glistening and micaceous. The largest crystals are 3-4 mm. The piece measures 2 5/8 x 2 x 2 inches or 67 x 50 x 50 mm.
