This topaz is from the Thomas Range in Juab County, Utah, USA.There are over fifteen, known, mines and diggings in the area and they contain 44 different mineral species including topaz. It is a silicate and it contains the elements Al, Si, O, F, and H. It can be found in a variety of colors which are created by different trace impurities in the crystal lattice. The topaz crystals from this locale tend to be small and they are rarely over 1 inch in size. This specimen consists of two transparent sherry colored topaz crystals that sit in an exposed vug in a rhyolite matrix. This piece is a small miniature that measures 1 1/16 x13/16 x 1/2 inches or 26 x 21 x 12 mm.
