Topaz – 31 mm Crystal from the Thomas Range

This topaz crystal is from the Thomas Range in Juab County, Utah, USA.There are over fifteen, known, mines and diggings in the area and they contain 44 different mineral species including topaz. It is a silicate and it contains the elements Al, Si, O, F, and H. It can be found in a variety of colors which are created by different trace impurities in the crystal lattice. The topaz crystals from this locale tend to be small and they are rarely over 1 inch in size. This crystal is large for the locale. It has a rich color and a glass luster. The lower end of the crystal has rhyolite inclusions and there are two small bixbyite crystals attached. It measures  31 x 10 x 7 mm.
