Description

This topaz is from the Mun. de Garcia in Zacatecas, Mexico. It is a silicate and it contains the elements Al, Si, O, F, and H. It can be found in a variety of colors that are created by different trace impurities in the crystal lattice. This specimen consists of a mixed matrix of tuff and druse topaz that contains an exposed vug with an outstanding cluster of topaz crystals. They are translucent to transparent with a red color caused by inclusions of red rutile crystals. The largest crystals are approx 10 mm long. This piece measures 2 1/8 x 1 1/4 x 1 inches or 54 x 32 x 28 mm.
