Topaz – 255 Carat Crystal from the Skardu District

This topaz crystal is from the Skardu District, Gilgit, Gilgit Baltistan (Northern Areas), Pakistan. Local miners dig in the granitic pegmatites in the area looking for crystal filled pockets. There are several gem varieties of minerals found there including topaz. It is a silicate and it contains the elements Al, Si, O, F, and H. It can be found in a variety of colors that are created by different trace impurities in the crystal lattice.  This crystal has a deep champagne color and a glass luster. It is transparent with.some internal grazing..The bottom which was the former matrix attachment point has a re-crystalized or healed surface. It measures approximately 1 9/16 x 1 1/4 x 1 inches or 39 x 32 x 25 mm
