Description
This titanite crystal is from the Campo da Boa Mine in Capelinha, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This mine is famous for the exceptional titanite crystals that are occasionally found there. Titanite was known for years as the mineral sphlene. It is a siicate that contains the elements Ca, Ti, Si and O. This crystal is relatively large and double terminated Twinned crystal. It is translucent to transparent with a bright luster. There are several smaller secondary crystals attached. It measures 1 3/4 x 15/16 x 9/16 inches 45 x 24 x 14 mm.
