This titanite is from the the Pfitsch pass in Zamer Grund, Zillertal, North Tyrol, Tyrol, Austria. The clefts located in this mountainous area contain eighteen different minerals including titanite or sphlene as it was also known by. Titanite is a silicate that contains the elements Ca, Ti, Si, and O. This specimen consists of a feldspar matrix with an exposed vug containing several titanite crystals. The largest crystal is approximately 14 mm tall. This piece measure 2 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2 inches or 50 x 41 x 38 mm.
