Description

This tetrahedrite is from the Huaron Mining District of the Huallay District, Pasco Department, Peru. This area contains at least 15 mines including the Alimon which is where most specimens from this district come from. The mines contain over three-hundred different minerals including tetrahedrite. It is a sulfide that contains the elements Cu, Sb and S. This specimen consists of a mixed sulfide matrix that is topped on the display surface with silver tetrahedrite crystals, pyrite crystals sphalerite crystals and minor quartz. All crystals have a well defined morphology. This piece measures 2 3/4 x 2 3/8 x 1 3/4 inches or 70 x 6 x 45 mm.
