Description
This tanzanite crystal is from the Merelani Hills, in the Lelatema Mountains, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania where it was discovered for use as a gemstone in 1967. This region is near Arusha and Mt Kilimanjaro and it contains 46 mineral species including several gemstones. Tanzanite is the gem blue variety of zoisite. It is a sorosilicate and it contains the elements Ca, Al, Si, O and H. This crystal has a wedge shape and a natural serrated termination. It has a good blue-purple color and glass luster. It measures 12 x 12 x 4 mm.
