Description
This fluorite and sphalerite is from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Tennessee, US. This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including fluorite. It is a common gangue mineral associated with the sphalerite which is a sulfide (Zn and S) and the primary ore at the mine. This specimen consists of plate-like formation of lustrous complex sphalerites that hosts several cubic fluorites that are scattered about the plate This piece measures 4 1/8 x 4 x 1 5/8 inches or 104 x 102 x 41 mm.
