This sphalerite is from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Tennessee, US. This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including sphalerite which is a sulfide (Zn and S) and the primary ore at the mine. This specimen consists of rosette-like (almost spherical) formation of lustrous complex sphalerites on a dolomite crystal covered chert matrix.. This piece measures 2 1/4 x 2 1/8 x 1 7/8 inches or 57 x 53 x 47 mm
