It consists of a plate of a translucent to transparent, amber to orange, calcite crystal with some minor fluorite crystal matrix attached. The fluorite has a bright glassy luster. The tip is razor sharp with minute cleavage surfaces. This piece measures 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 13/16 inches or 38 x 38 x 20 mm

Description

These sphalerite crystals are from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Central Tennessee Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Tennessee, USA.This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including sphalerite which is the primary ore. This piece consists of a rosette formation of complex sphalerite crystals. This piece measures 1 1/8 x 1 x 7/8 inches or 28 x 25 x 22 mm.
