This barite on sphalerite is from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Tennessee, US. This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including sphalerite which is a sulfide (Zn and S) and the primary ore at the mine. This specimen consists of matrix of complex sphalerite crystals that host a barite “snowball” crystal cluster and some secondary calcites.. This piece measures 3 x 1 7/8 x 1 1/8 inches or 76 x 47 x 28 mm.
