Description
This spessartine is from the Wushan Spessartine Mine in Tongbei, Yunxiao Co. Zhangghou Prefecture, Fujian Province, China. This locale contains seventeen different mineral species including spessartine (garnet). It is a silicate and contains the elements Mn, Al, Si, and O. This specimen consists of a feldspar crystal matrix that hosts dozens of transparent, glassy, smokey quartz crystals and gem spessartine garnets. The garnets have a trapezohedral morphology with sharp edges and well defined growth patterns on the faces. The larger garnets are 1/4 inches across. The matrix has been sawed on the rear, bottom and left side surfaces. This piece measures 4 x 2 3/8 x 1 1/8 inches or 102 x 60 x 29 mm.
