This bright silver specimen is from the Aghbar Mine in Bou Azzer, Souss-Massa Draa Region, Morocco. This is a heavy piece ( almost 1 LB ). It is entirely made up of crystaline skutterudite that is topped skutterudite crystals and some minor calcite. The display side is covered with mirror bright crystals up to 10 mm. The piece measures 2 11/16 x 2 1/4 x 1 11/16 inches or 68 x 57 x 43 mm.

Description

This skutterudite is from the Aghbar Mine in Bou Azzer District, in Tazenakht, Ouarzazate Province, Draa-Tifilaletfilet Region, Morocco. This a mineral rich region that contains 234 mineral species including skutterudite. It is an arsenide that contains the elements Co and As. This specimen is a heavy piece for its size. It is a vein of skutterudite that is covered on the display surface with large well defined crystals. They are silver with a bright luster and there are some surfaces that have a light blue iridescence. There is minor calcite present. The piece measures 1 3/4 x 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches or 45 x 38 x 38 mm.
