Description
This native silver variety kongsbergite is from the Santa Matilde open pit, Berja Mines, Las Herrerias, Sierra Almagara, Cuevas del Almanzora, Almeria, Andalusia, Spain. This large open pit contains 16 different minerals including the variety of silver called kongsbergite. Kongsbergite is a natural amalgam containing the elements Ag and about 5% Hg. This piece is a sheet-like formation of foliated crystals of kongsbergite. It measures 1 7/16 x 1 1/4 x 1/4 inches or 37 x 32 x 7 mm.
