Description
This siderite is from Linopolis in the Laranjeiras Valley, Aimores Pegmatite District, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This area contains several mines and diggings in the phosphate rich pegmatites. Over 100 different minerals can be found including siderite. It is a carbonate and it contains the elements Fe, C and O. This specimen consists of a lamellae like formation of pseudo-hexagonal crystals on a matrix of druse feldspar, apatite, quartz and brazilianite. The crystals are translucent when strongly back lighted. They have a pearly to silken luster. This piece measures 1 x 7/8 x 3/4 inches or 25 x 22 x 19 mm.
