Description
This scolecite is from Nashik in the Maharastra State of India. This area contains dozens of quarries that are primarily mined for basalt. There are mineral filled vesicules and vugs with some zones of the basalt that can contain up to 28 different mineral species including scolecite. It is in the zeolite family and it contains the elements Ca, Si, Al, O, and H.. This specimen consists of interpenetrating, cone-like, clusters of scolecite crystals. They are translucent to transparent and have a bright glass luster. This piece measures 7 1/4 x 2 5/8 x 2 1/4 inches or 184 x 67 x 57 mm.
