This scheelite crystal is from the Pingwu Beryl Mine in the Huya Township, Mt Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. This mine is well known for its production of mineral specimens that also includes aquamarine and cassiterite. This specimen consists of a matrix of muscovite crystals with a single translucent scheelite crystal. It is a sulfate that contains the elements Ca, W, and O and it is an ore of tungsten. This crystal has a pseudo-octahedral morphology and appears to be a contact twin. It also fluoresces in SW UV light (photo 5). It is approximately 30 mm across. This specimen measures 3 3/8 x 3 x 1 1/2 inches.
