Description
This scapolite is from Linopolis in Divino das Laranjeiras, in the Doce Valley of Minas Gerais, Brazil. This area has many pegmatites that are mined by dozens of mines and claims for the recovery of collector specimens including scapolite. It is a tectosilicate that contains the elements Ca, Al, Si, O and C. This is a double terminated crystal, a floater, with no apparent point of attachment. It is transparent with striated, lightly etched surfaces. It is transparent with a glass luster. This crystal measures 11/16 x 5/16 x 1/4 inches or 17 x 8 x 6 mm.
