Description
These sapphire crystal twins are from the Old Pressley Sapphire Mine in Canton, Haywood County, North Carolina, USA. Sapphires from this mine are found in alluvial deposits from eroded seyanite pegmatites in the area. The pegmatites are primarily made up of feldspar, quartz and mica. However other accessory minerals including blue and pink sapphires are found there. Some of the crystals are huge and some star when made into cabachons. These crystals have sharp hexagonal habits and a blue grey color. They are double terminated and have some minor mica matrix attached. They measure 1 1/4 x 1 3/16 x 7/16 inches or 32 x 30 x 11 mm.
