Description

This sapphire crystal is from the Wood Creek Mine in Canton, Haywood County, North Carolina, USA. Sapphires from this mine are found in alluvial deposits from eroded seyanite pegmatites in the area. The pegmatites are primarily made up of feldspar, quartz and mica. However other accessory minerals including blue and pink sapphires are found there. This is a large blue sapphire with minor feldspar attached. It measures approximately 2 1/2 x 1 7/16 x 1 7/16 or 61 x 37 x 37 mm.
