Description
These rutile crystals are from Diamantina in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This area contains dozens of different mines in which over 30 different mineral species can be found. The mines are exploited primarily for the recovery of various gem stones including diamonds. Rutile is found in some of the mines as an associated mineral species. It is an oxide mineral that contains the elements Ti and O. This specimen is an aesthetic example of a reticulated cluster of mostly twinned rutile crystals on the tips of floater quartz crystals. This specimen measures 3/4 x 1/2 x 3/8 inches or 19 x 12 x 9 mm.
