Description
This rutile is from Boiling Springs in Cleveland County, North Carolina, USA. This locale is well known for the rutile specimens once found there on limonite and muscovite crystal plates. Rutile and limonite are oxides. This piece consists of a roughly star shaped cluster of rhombic limonite (pseudomorphs of siderite) crystals that host a nice reticulated cluster of red rutile crystals. There is a remnant muscovite crystal matrix plate attached. This piece measures 2 3/4 x 2 3/16 x 1 7/16 inches or 70 x 55 x 37 mm.
